Student Engagement and Coping Skills Development
A few popular engagement activities include art projects focused on decision making, peer education; teaching high school students about the dangers of tobacco in order for them to go and teach what they have learned to 4th grade after school programs. Career clubs are in development at a few of our South County High Schools with the purpose of showing kids the different opportunities available to them when they graduate. Coping skills are integrated throughout our tobacco prevention lessons as well as our youth engagement activities. Data suggests that the ability to cope with emotions in a healthy way will give students the confidence they need when saying no to drugs in situations faced with peer pressure.
